Meet Malcolm - Top Technician

I've been with Toyota 19 years starting as an Apprentice Technician. Along the way I’ve been lucky enough to have tens of thousands of dollars of high quality training invested in me by the dealership.

I've gone from Toyota Technician to Pro, to Diagnosis, to Diagnosis Master Technician to now being part of the Hybrid Elite team, one of only a chosen few in New Zealand. It shows that if you come here with an open mind to learning you can go as far as you want.

The role is always changing because I am always learning. Nothing stays still in this environment.There is a real family feel here, the dealership is owned by a family and they have been flexible around mine, especially when things have been challenging. This place rewards people that want to learn and seek knowledge to upskill. If you want to grow in your role they'll help you. A good attitude goes a long way!

Is a Workshop role for me?

Where can a career as a Technician take me?

Whether you come in as an Apprentice or already have experience under your belt, a workshop career can take you anywhere within Toyota. We have many examples of Apprentices progressing to more senior roles both within the service department and in the broader business – for example Branch Managers or even CEOs!

What kind of people do you look for?

At Toyota we believe everyday’s an opportunity to improve. That means we look for people who are serious about improving their skills, pushing themselves to develop and ultimately, advancing their career. We also look for people who can embrace and deliver an exceptional service experience to our customers.

Do I need experience?

We look for our Service Technicians and Authorised Vehicle Inspectors (AVI) to be trade qualified and have their AVI certification. Most of our Apprentices have completed a pre-trade course in automotive engineering at a local polytechnic, but if you’re hard working and have a passion for motor vehicles, then we’re also keen to hear from you.

Service Technician

Work on Toyota and other vehicles to deliver New Zealand's best customer experiences. Work with a brand you are happy to put your name to. With extensive training and clear career progression this is the technician role that will challenge, extend and reward you.

Groomer

This is where many great careers in the automotive industry begin. We are always looking for people with a great attitude, attention to detail and a drive to get ahead. This job is all about delivering delight to customers and is a vital role in a dealership.
